Note: Stitch BNPL is now Stitch Pay Later. The product is the same, with a refreshed name.
Not every Pay Later application is approved. For regulatory reasons in South Africa, we can't share the specific criteria used in the assessment. This applies to all credit providers, not just Stitch.
Why decisions are made
Your application is assessed against a set of factors including your credit profile, your affordability based on the information you provided, and other regulatory checks. We don't disclose the specific reasons for a decline.
If you've been declined for Extend but approved for Split
Extend has stricter eligibility than Split because it offers a potentially higher available spend limit, and allows you to defer the first payment. You might be approved for Split (our interest-free, shorter-term option) but not Extend at this time. You can continue using Split as normal, and your Extend eligibility may change in future.
If you've been declined for both
Your eligibility for Stitch Pay Later is reviewed periodically. We don't have a way to manually override a decline, and there isn't a self-serve way to reapply right now. Your situation can change over time, and your eligibility may be re-assessed as your credit profile changes.
What you can do
The most useful step is keeping a healthy credit profile through other channels: pay accounts on time, keep balances low, and avoid frequent applications. None of this is a guarantee, but it's the type of thing that's looked at.
